The candidate for political office inevitably is asked “What is your position on abortion?”
President Ronald Reagan put it well when he said that he had noticed that most of the people who are for abortion have already been born.
Last year our United States Supreme Court observed that the word “abortion” is nowhere to be found in the Constitution and there is no such thing as a“Constitutional right” to abortion. They struck down Roe v. Wade, the 1973 case of the Supreme Court which itself struck down the laws of the states criminalizing abortion. Prior to Roe v. Wade, all states made it a crime for a doctor to perform an abortion (most states had exceptions for rape, incest, and the life or health of the mother).
The long arm of the Supreme Court that struck down state criminal laws against abortion has now been drawn back, allowing the states to re-institute the laws on their books prior to 1973 that forbade doctors from performing abortions.
In the Dobb’s case, the Supreme Court reviewed the laws of the states prior to 1973 prohibiting abortion, many of them going back to colonial times. Our forefathers understood in their hearts that life begins, like everything else, at the beginning, The Declaration of Independence states:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are CREATED equal, that they are endowed by their CREATOR with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are LIFE, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness…”
Based upon these words of the Declaration of Independence, Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation of the Slaves on January 1st, 1863. Based upon these same words President Ronald Reagan issued what has come to be known as the Emancipation Proclamation of Preborn Children on January 14th, 1988.
Yours very sincerely and respectfully,
R. Martin Palmer
P.S. “Unalienable Rights” are not subject to debate. They are endowed by the Creator.
Unalienable rights are God-given rights. What God gives, man cannot take away. God has given each of us life. For man to take away our life is murder.
Abraham Lincoln said “As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a slave master.”
As we would not want our own life to be taken from us, even so, we would not propose to take away the life of a preborn child created in the Image of God.
