Truth forever on the scaffold; wrong forever on the throne.” (From the poem This Present Crisis by James Russell Lowell)
The conservative majority of the U.S. Supreme Court that overturned Roe know that life begins like everything else – at the beginning. In overturning Roe, they could have gone on to say that “all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are the right to life and liberty”. They could have done so quoting the Declaration of Independence, our nation’s Charter.
Inalienable rights cannot be taken away or alienated by any state legislature or the U.S. Congress. Unfortunately, the court ignored the truth of our own Declaration of Independence – the truth of our being – so as to placate the forces of darkness that seek to keep truth on the scaffold and wrong forever on the throne.
They said that the rights to life and liberty of preborn children were dependent upon individual states. Power to protect the lives of preborn children was given to the states. Power to allow the killing of preborn children was given to the states. Someone has counted and the states are aligned 26 for life; 24 for the death of preborn children. Instead of America again being a ‘light on a hill for all the world to see’, the light is flickering on and off. It is a distress signal for ourselves and the world.
The devil has loved death and dying from the beginning. Storm clouds of war and death are growing in the East (Russia/Ukraine and Europe) and in the West (China/Taiwan). Dr. Lejeune said it:
“If big Russian learns it is okay to kill little Russian (abortion), and big American learns it is okay to kill little American, then you are not going to tell big Russian it is not okay to kill big American, and you are not going to tell big American it is not okay to kill big Russian – nuclear war only a few years away.”
It all comes down to the Sanctity of Human Life – Preborn and Born, Children and Adults, Abortion and War (both of which the devil uses to kill) – Preborn, 63+ million since 1973 in our nation alone; Born – an untold number in mankind’s wars, 70 to 85 million in the Second World War alone worldwide.
We recall that the theologian Dr. Francis Schaffer and Surgeon General Koop co-authored the book Whatever Happened to the Human Race? They pointed out that it all began in Germany when it was decided that there was such a thing as a life not worth living (abortion). Then it spread to the handicapped newborns, then handicapped adults, then Gypsies, then the Slavs and then eventually the politically ‘unfit’. The euthanasianists taught the Nazi’s how to build the crematoriums.
The devil will employ the same modus operandi today in an effort to place himself forever on the throne: in the states in which he can keep abortion firmly in place, he will seek to expand it to handicapped newborns. He will also seek to promote and legalize euthanasia in that state.
Prolife people in prolife states are the ‘Keepers of the Spring’. If the Spring becomes polluted, all water that runs from that Spring pollutes the waters that flow below it. Can you imagine a state like Indiana, which outlawed abortion just before the Supreme Court overturned Roe, legalizing euthanasia? Of course not. Indiana is a ‘Keeper of the Spring”.
So where does the prolife movement find itself as we prepare to cross the threshold of the year 2023 with Roe relegated to the ash heap of history? The Supreme Court has done all it’s going to do for another 5o years.
Ideally, we should gather at the Lincoln Memorial this January 22nd and on the steps thereof, with Lincoln’s seated statue in the background, standing where Dr. Martin Luther King gave his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech, tell of our “DREAM FOR PREBORN CHILDREN”(recognition of the equal humanity and personhood of the preborn child). State by state, their lives must be protected as equal creations of God in His Image and equal members of the Community of Man endowed from conception with the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Speakers such as Vice President Pence could be invited and the eloquent words of President Trump in his last 2019 State of the Union address could be read by Jeannine Mancini:
“Let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life. And let us reaffirm a fundamental truth: all children – born and unborn – are made in the HOLY IMAGE OF GOD. “
Governors and key legislators from states now protecting preborn life may be invited to attend and speak. A prolife vision for America could be laid out inspiring other states to come on board. Unlike our March to the Supreme Court for 48 years, there is no need for a police presence on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial as there was on the steps of the Supreme Court. There is nothing to protect inside the Lincoln Memorial except a cold marble statue.
We could first gather on the ellipse as we have in the past, but reverse our line of march and march west to the Temple our nation built to the great Emancipator. Over Lincoln’s seated statue we find these words carved high in the white marble wall above his head:
“In this TEMPLE, as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever.”
Is not the prolife movement invested with the task of saving the Union again? Lincoln reminded us that “a house divided cannot stand” (Illinois Republican State Convention, June 16, 1858). He was quoting Christ (Matt. 12:25, Mk. 3:24).
The world witnessed this splitting and rending apart of our nation at the time of President Trump’s 2019 State of the Union speech in which he stood up for preborn children causing one side of the aisle to give him a standing ovation while the other side remained seated on their hands. We are fighting for the soul and the survival of America.
President Trump’s exact words in his 2019 State of the Union speech to a joint session of Congress were as follows:
“There could be no greater contrast to the beautiful image of a mother holding her infant child than the chilling displays our Nation saw in recent days. Lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother’s womb moments before birth. These are living, feeling, beautiful babies who will never get the chance to share their love and dreams with the world. And then, we had the case of the Governor of Virginia where he basically stated he would execute a baby after birth.
To defend the dignity of every person, I am asking the Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother’s womb.
Let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life. And let us reaffirm a fundamental truth: all children – born and unborn – are made in the Holy Image of God. “
A copy of the president’s State of the Union speech is traditionally handed by him to the Speaker of the House, as he comes to the podium. After the speech, the Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, was seen by all on television to take her copy of his State of the Union speech, and holding it aloft, rip it entirely in half from top to bottom! The angst of the Speaker of the House was visually symbolic of our nation’s house divided.
President Ronald Reagan, at the time of his second inaugural let it be known that his mother’s Bible on which he would place his hand to take his oath of office, would be opened to 2 Chronicles 7:14 because he thought it was the message to our nation at this time:
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (II Chronicles 7:14).
—For truly it is God who is forever on the throne. Martin Luther King’s niece, Alveda King, is an ardent defender of life. Perhaps some thought could be given to having her lead the closing prayer reading from II Chronicles 7:14.
Let us keep preborn children and world peace in our prayers!
Yours very sincerely and respectfully,
R. Martin Palmer
