Former President Trump stated on Friday, August 30th, that if elected, he would make available IVF (in vitro fertilization) to married women seeking to have a child and have not been able to do so. Almost immediately came the questions of the press, “Does this include homosexual couples?” “Does this include women who are not married?”
The answer is common sense. President Trump’s heart was going out to married women only – who were unable to conceive a child with their husbands after many years of effort. Two men in a homosexual relationship or two women in a homosexual relationship don’t seek IVF to have a child because they know it’s impossible.
Likewise, it’s common sense that the president was not extending his offer to single women with multiple or single relationships who wanted to conceive a child but were unable to do so. They must be married and in a monogamous relationship. The wishes of the ‘woke’ culture do not apply here, but rather the simple ‘facts of biology’ and the laws of God. We must always remember it was God in the Garden of Eden who instituted the sacrament of marriage. It is His plan for family and for our happiness. The devil has had his own plan to sow the seeds of destruction for families and for Christian culture from the beginning.
The pro-life community needs to educate the former president on the wisdom of the world dean of geneticists, the late Dr. Jerome Lejeune who said, “It is not good to make spare children.” (by IVF) Yes, the IVF labs that have mushroomed will gladly take women’s money, give them high-ovulating drugs to produce many embryos at once, then sell the ‘spares’ to those who are engaged in the denatured biology of human embryo experimentation.
Dr. Bill Hogan stated in truth “no human being on the planet has benefited from human embryo experimentation”. The hope lies with adult stem cell experimentation – taking a scraping of cells of the patient’s arm, for instance, and using those cells for manipulation and reinsertion into that same patient’s body. Yes, a lot of hope and promise has come from that. It makes common sense that God would not place hope for mankind in the destruction of very small children (human embryos).
Dr. Lejeune used to ride his bike back and forth from his lab to his home on Rue Galande in the shadow of Notre Dame across the Seine while his colleagues drove expensive sports cars as they passed him on his way home. They all respected this humble man on his bicycle. As he pedaled, he turned over in his great mind the need for a new law given the new science of IVF. He was understanding that life begins like everything else, at the beginning. He sketched out the enclosed law which he included in his book The Concentration Can (written about the Tennessee Frozen Human Embryo case and his testimony therein).
My wife and I, along with John and Daniella Brabner-Smith (Professor Brabner-Smith founded the International School of Law in Washington, DC, now George Mason University Law School) attended a lecture of Dr. Lejeune at Georgetown University following his testimony in the Tennessee case. I invited him to join us for dinner at the “1789 Restaurant” there in Georgetown afterward. Walking to the restaurant, he confided that it was he who had authored the law respecting the human genome and embryo that Senator Bernard Seillier submitted to the French Parliament (it was voted down in liberal France where the French press later derided the Holy Father Pope Jean Paul II when he came to Paris for taking his heliocopter to visit and venerate Dr. Lejeune’s grave on a windswept hillside by a little church in the French countryside. They said that pro-life sentiment had all but died out and the Pope was resurrecting it).
Dr. Lejeune received from President Kennedy our nation’s highest award for isolating the X-21 chromosome responsible for Down’s Syndrome. He told his wife that he gave up his Noble prize when he gave a pro-life address. Having devoted his life to finding a cure for Down’s Syndrome (as he said, “We need to attack the disease, not attack and kill the patient who has the disease.”), he was sad that his discovery was being used to target Down’s children in the womb. In France it is now against the law to give birth to a Down’s child. They have even passed a law making it illegal for anyone to speak out against the killing of Down’s preborn children.
The President needs to understand that these IVF labs that began with an altruistic desire to help infertile couples, have now become giant money-making propositions. IVF done properly combines the egg of a married woman with the sperm of her husband in a petri dish (the term ‘in vitro’ means ‘in glass’). The technician then watches what would ordinarily take place in a tube of flesh (the fallopian tube) take place in a dish of glass – what people have named “a test tube baby”. They watch the egg divide. Dr. Lejeune said they thought the egg would divide into two, then four, then eight, to 16, etc, but instead, there is a curious intermediate stage when the egg goes from 2 to 3 before going to four. He said it seems to be a stage when the 3 cells are talking to one another saying, “We are not a mass of cells. We are an individual.” He added that it was curious that “it takes a trinity to make a human being.”
Human embryos can be frozen in liquid nitrogen which is − 196 °C [− 320 °F]. Liquid hydrogen is cooler at −253°C (−423°F), but it is explosive and it is for NASA for the rockets.
Liquid nitrogen is inexpensive and easy to work with. It is not dangerous. Dr. Lejeune explained that the technique was borrowed from animal husbandry because it was cheaper to ship the embryo of a French calf by refrigerated express in a small container to the U.S. than it was to wait and ship a young French calf. When the calf embryo arrived, animal husbandry had perfected the technique of implanting the french calf embryo into an American cow, where the calf grew to term and live birth. The calf once born had none of the characteristics of the surrogate mother cow, but all of the characteristics of its mother cow and father bull back in France.
Once it was discovered that the same freezing of embryos which worked in animal husbandry could be applied to humans, IVF was born. Today, a married couple can go to an IVF lab and choose at random from among hundreds of human embryos in the lab deep freeze, an embryo whose label states not the mother and father’s names, but their socio-economic group, education, the color of their hair and eyes, their height, their nationality, their race, etc. , etc. Good Heavens, it’s like going down a cafeteria line – all for a price, a big price!
The pro-life community needs to educate the President on this. He is wading into deep, deep water which is why, when Dr. Lejeune thought out over many months his Proposal of Law, it applied then and it applies for all time. It should have been followed then and it must be followed now if the President is caused to make good on his promise to put federal dollars into IVF.
When you put federal dollars (like tuition grants) into college education, the price of college rises exponentially. The kids sign on the dotted line, the college gets the price they name, the lenders have federal guarantees, and students are saddled with debt seemingly for life. The IVF labs know that the government prints money. They will go wild. We will be indirectly funding what Dr. Lejeune called the “denatured biology of human embryo experimentation”.
And, IVF assistance must be limited to married couples, as Dr. Lejeune’s Proposal of Law states:
“The donation of embryos is forbidden, and agreements for the procreation or gestation on the behalf of other people is illicit.
No human embryo can be submitted to any exploitation whatsoever.
The pursuit of its continued development until its term, in the organism of its mother, must be offered to each embryo before another embryo is conceived.” (Dr. Jerome Lejeune, Proposal of Law, Article 3)
…what is meant to be used for good, can end up being used for bad.
Someone needs to get this information to the President along with a copy of Dr. Lejeune’s Proposal of Law as soon as possible or this deep water he is wading into will become a tsunami that will return to inundate preborn children in a sad and despicable way. The President wants it to be used for good. If he is elected, and we hope he is elected, these issues need to be known and ironed out. The devilish mischief will be with those on the other side of the fence who will use this for their own purposes, and as Dr. Lejeune said then we would “have to deal with a very denatured biology and there would be A VERY DIM FUTURE FOR MANKIND!”

P.S. THE SUPREME COURT GAVE PREBORN CHILDREN ONLY HALF A LOAF IN DOBB’S. They overturned Roe, but stopped there. The decision was leaked ahead of time. Paid demonstrators showed up on their home doorsteps. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer stood on the Supreme Court’s front steps threatening the judges with who knows what (and he meant for them to wonder what the ‘what’ was). He later helped to organize the paid goons who marched in the judge’s private neighborhoods in front of their private homes (with Molotov cocktails in their backpacks? The judges may have wondered.)
The Dobb’s decision was leaked before it could be completed. Schumer and the paid demonstrators caused the judges to stop short of declaring the unalienable rights enshrined in our own Declaration of Independence (which in truth is a Declaration of Dependence upon God):
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness…”
Instead, the conservative wing of the court was intimidated to take the easy way out by getting down Pontius Pilate’s bowl and washing their hands of the matter, throwing the hot potato to the states. In doing so, they were something less than Captains Courageous.
Yes, they will stand there and tell you that they cannot be intimidated – but they were. They are human beings like the rest of us and they put their pants on in the morning like the rest of us. If there is a danger looming in the back of their mind for their own safety or that of their children (whether a Molotov cocktail would come through their children’s bedroom window at night) they are quick to find in the law reasons for not getting involved in what they would really like to say and do (to uphold the equal humanity and personhood of the preborn child from conception until natural death and point to the Declaration of Independence and the 14th amendment which enshrined this right to life and put it into constitutional law).
Thus, our next step in getting the Supreme Court to give preborn children the other half of the loaf is to first give them protection of their persons and their homes. Not until we protect them in their homes will they feel free to venture forth and give preborn children protection in their temporary homes, the temple of the womb, God’s intended safe haven for preborn children created by Him in His Image.
What we need for our Supreme Court judges (both liberals and conservatives should be in favor of this proposal regardless of how the pendulum swings over the years) – is a ‘Camp David’ of sorts for the judges’ private homes. Gone forever are the days when they can continue to live in their own home in their own neighborhood once appointed to the Supreme Court bench.
I gave the problem to a 2nd year law student intern from Regent University School of Law. I was astounded with what she came up with. You will find it enclosed. Good Heavens, it’s ideal and it’s been right there under our noses all along. Rock Creek Park. Carved out of the center of Washington, DC, in the 1800’s. It is one half hour from the Supreme Court building. The intern has proposed a small gated community near Park Police headquarters (built in protection). If the justices (like Amy Coney Barrett) have children, Good Heavens, the National Zoo is located right smack in the middle of the park. If the judges and their families like horseback riding, Rock Creek Park Horse Center is right there. Has the hand of Providence put these things in place at this hour in this time? Who knows? These things are there. Let’s use them.
